A 26-year-old security man, Godwin Dauda, has been taken into custody by the Police authorities in Niger State, Nigeria, following an allegation that he raped an 11-year-old girl, Christabel Albert, to death and dumped her corpse inside a church well. The incident occurred in Suleja, Niger State, after Dauda, who was attached to the Apostolic Church in Suleja, fled his duty post to Kuje in the Federal Capital Territory to hide.
According to reports, the incident happened after Albert had gone missing while attending a birthday ceremony of a relative. A relative of Albert had lodged a report of a missing person to the police, stating that the girl had left home to attend the ceremony but did not return. The police later found out that Dauda had lured Albert into his security room inside the church and raped her to death.
A pastor from the Apostolic Church in Suleja reported finding a corpse inside a well within the church's premises, prompting the police to swing into action to unravel the suspect. The police, during investigations, discovered that Dauda had dumped Albert's corpse inside the well in an effort to conceal the crime before fleeing to Kuje to escape from the law.
The Spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations were in progress and the suspect would be transferred to SCID Minna for diligent prosecution. Abiodun revealed that the police had received a report of a missing person on September 20, 2026, and later in the evening, a pastor from the church reported finding a dead body inside a well within the church premises.
The police, with the help of LGA welfare staff, removed the corpse from the well and took it to the General Hospital Suleja, where it was later identified as the missing girl. During interrogation, Dauda confessed that he had lured Albert to his security room in the church on September 19, 2026, and raped her to death. He also admitted to dropping the corpse inside the well and running away.
Dauda was arrested on September 23, 2026, at about 8 pm around Kuje area of FCT, where he had run to hide. The police are currently investigating the matter, and Dauda is expected to face prosecution for his alleged crimes.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of children in Nigeria, particularly in places of worship. The police have assured that they will do everything possible to ensure that justice is served in this case. The suspect's transfer to SCID Minna for prosecution is expected to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of the case.
