Sartorius Stedim Biotech, a leading partner in the biopharmaceutical industry, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its M'Hamdia site in Tunisia. Established in 2001, the site has evolved from a small production center to a strategic assembly hub serving an international clientele. It specializes in single-use solutions such as bags, which help clients manufacture biotechnological drugs, vaccines, and cellular and gene therapies more safely, quickly, and sustainably.
The milestone is being marked with a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, highlighting the company's long-standing contribution to industrial development, innovation, and employment in Tunisia's life sciences sector. René Fáber, CEO of Sartorius Stedim Biotech, noted that M'Hamdia has become an essential part of their production network, enabling the company to provide reliable, high-quality single-use solutions to clients worldwide. The site is well-positioned to contribute to the growth of the biopharmaceutical industry.
The M'Hamdia site began production in 2002 as part of the Stedim group and joined Sartorius Stedim Biotech's global organization in 2007. Since then, the site has continuously developed through investments in infrastructure, production capacity, and personnel training. In 2020, Sartorius Stedim Biotech launched the Sartorius Tunisian Academy to help employees acquire advanced skills for cleanroom operations.
A major expansion completed in 2021 laid the foundation for the site's current scope. The site now spans approximately 20,000 square meters, including 4,500 square meters of production space and 4,000 square meters of cleanrooms. It houses three cleanrooms and 36 assembly lines producing solutions such as Biosafe, Flexsafe, and Flexel 3D.
Sartorius Stedim Biotech has invested over €21 million in the site between 2021 and 2025, demonstrating its long-term commitment. More than 800 people work at the site, with women making up half of the workforce. The site's growth is built on a constant commitment to quality, environmental responsibility, health, and safety, as well as sustainable operations.
The site has received several international certifications, including ISO 50001 for energy management and ISCC Plus for sustainability. It has also received numerous national distinctions from Tunisian institutions and public organizations, praising its achievements in health and safety, employee development, and social progress.
