On September 28, 2026, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led the campaign train of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) to Ikorodu Division. The team, including party chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, was received at the Palace of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi. Thousands of party faithful gathered, assuring the campaign team of their readiness to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hamzat, and his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James.
During the campaign, Hamzat expressed his appreciation to traditional rulers and urged them to mobilize their subjects to vote for APC candidates. He emphasized that the re-election of President Tinubu is crucial to Nigeria's continued progress, warning that failure to return the President for a second term would be a political tragedy. Hamzat commended President Tinubu for demonstrating courage, experience, and fulfilling campaign promises.
Hamzat highlighted the importance of continuity in Lagos, citing the state's record of achievements and visible development under the APC. He stressed that Lagos is too vital a state to be experimented with and that continuity remained the most sensible option. Senator Tokunbo Abiru urged APC members and supporters not to underestimate the opposition, while House of Representatives member Jimi Benson called on residents to vote for APC candidates.
Ojelabi emphasized the importance of effective mobilization, particularly involving youths and canvassers, ahead of the 2027 elections. Oba Shotobi commended Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat for their cordial relationship and urged them to sustain it. The event was attended by former Works Minister Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Agriculture Commissioner Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, and Baba Aladura Reuben Olorunfunmi Bashorun.
Hamzat outlined his vision for Lagos, promising to build a more interconnected state, decentralize government services, and develop the distinctive economic advantages of each division. He identified Ikorodu's potential in agriculture, food processing, and transportation and promised to develop infrastructure around emerging institutions and economic activities.
Hamzat emphasized the need to plan Lagos as a borderless metropolitan city, taking into account the needs of neighboring states that depend on the state's infrastructure and public services. He cited the example of Orile Agege General Hospital, where patients come from outside Lagos, and stressed the importance of organization within the state to improve accountability and eliminate leakages.
Hamzat disclosed plans to introduce 77 electric buses into the state's transport system and develop major transport interchanges with connectivity between buses, rail, and ferries. He added that Lagos must maximize its waterways alongside road and rail infrastructure to create a truly integrated transport system.
