Rwanda's National Development Board (RDB) has identified Huye District as a key area with vast potential to accelerate the country's economic growth through increased investment. In a recent meeting on investment in Huye District, RDB's Chief Executive Officer, Jean-Guy Afrika, highlighted the importance of strengthening development initiatives in districts and cities that complement Kigali, including Huye, which offers numerous attractive investment opportunities. Afrika emphasized that Rwanda's economy will significantly benefit from creating strong economic hubs in various districts.
The RDB meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance investment in Huye District, which boasts potential in sectors such as education, tourism, agriculture, healthcare, industry, and value addition to various products. Afrika reiterated the board's commitment to supporting districts in creating investment opportunities and collaborating with investors to transform available opportunities into businesses that generate employment and contribute to national development. The meeting brought together leaders from government agencies and the private sector, development partners, entrepreneurs, and representatives from universities to discuss the district's potential and build partnerships for sustainable economic growth.
The meeting, themed "Striving to Make Huye a Prime Investment Destination," showcased various investment opportunities in the district, focusing on creating a culture of entrepreneurship, job creation, innovation, and accelerated economic growth. University of Rwanda's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Didas Kayihura Muganga, emphasized the importance of education, research, and innovation in driving investment in Huye. He highlighted the potential for collaboration between universities, researchers, investors, and stakeholders to transform research and innovation into solutions that support economic development.
Dr. Muganga stressed that increasing the population's knowledge and leveraging modern technology, including artificial intelligence, can contribute to sustainable development and create new opportunities in Huye. Brigitte Mukakarangwa, Managing Director of Koperative ikora ikanatunganya ikawa (KOGIMUWAKA), noted that Huye District has potential in coffee production, from cultivation to processing and value addition. She emphasized that developing a coffee value chain can attract investors and create new business opportunities.

The district's potential is also evident in its agricultural produce, particularly coffee, which is among the best in the country.
