Rwanda joined the world on October 5, 2023, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of World Teachers' Day, with the theme "Empowering Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting, Promoting, and Preparing for the Future." The country's education sector has seen significant growth, with 122,828 teachers serving 4.8 million students. This milestone is a testament to the government's efforts to improve the education system.

According to the Ministry of Education's report on education activities in 2024/2025, the number of teachers has increased by 9,280, representing an 8.2% growth from the previous year. The report also shows that the number of education workers rose by 7.5% from 142,073 to 152,680. The increase in teachers is a positive trend, indicating the government's commitment to enhancing the quality of education.

The report reveals that female teachers dominate the primary education sector, making up 83.0% of teachers in nursery schools and 55.6% in primary schools. In contrast, male teachers dominate the higher education sector, accounting for 64.7% of teachers in secondary schools, 69.5% in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and 78.4% in higher education institutions.

The number of students in Rwanda has also seen a significant increase, with 4,822,507 students enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic year, representing a 1.2% growth from the previous year. This translates to 34.2% of Rwanda's population being in school. The number of students in nursery schools and childcare centers decreased by 2.3% to 1,268,604, while those in primary schools decreased by 1.8% to 2,952,236.

The number of students in secondary schools decreased by 4.3% to 573,321, while those in TVET programs increased by 15.6% to 135,025. The number of students in higher education institutions, including universities and the Higher Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institute, increased by 17.5% to 153,318.

The quality of teachers in Rwanda has also improved, with 99.4% of nursery school teachers and 99.8% of primary school teachers holding qualified teaching certificates. In secondary schools, 87.1% of teachers have qualified certificates, while in TVET, 83.6% of teachers are qualified.

The government has also seen an increase in the number of education administrators, with a 5.5% growth to 19,225. Male administrators dominate the sector, accounting for 59.1% of administrators in primary education and 62.6% in higher education.
