President William Ruto has emphasized the importance of electing capable leaders in the 2027 general elections. Speaking to Kenyans living in the US in New York, Ruto expressed confidence in the country's future but stressed the need for deliberate choices in leadership. He highlighted that the quality of leadership will determine Kenya's success or failure. Ruto's remarks underscore the significance of leadership in achieving the country's potential.

Ruto attributed Kenya's economic progress to his administration's measures, citing reduced inflation and interest rates, as well as increased foreign exchange reserves. He noted that inflation has decreased, interest rates have declined, and foreign exchange reserves have grown from $5.7 billion to $15.3 billion. These changes, according to Ruto, demonstrate the government's efforts to stabilize the economy. The President encouraged Kenyans to rely on economic data rather than misinformation.

The President also highlighted his government's programs in various sectors, including agriculture, education, housing, health, savings, digital infrastructure, and roads. He mentioned that national savings at the National Social Security Fund have increased from Sh320 billion in 2023 to Sh690 billion, with projections to reach Sh1 trillion by June 2027. Additionally, the Social Health Authority has registered 33 million Kenyans since its establishment in 2024.

Ruto launched the Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform, a digital initiative connecting Kenyans abroad with investment and development opportunities at home. The platform aims to facilitate investment in areas such as housing, health, and agriculture. Developed through a partnership between the Kenyan government, the United Nations, and Equity Group Holdings, the platform seeks to encourage the diaspora's contribution beyond remittances to include investment, expertise, innovation, and global networks.

The President is in New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where Kenya is seeking investment partnerships and greater participation in global discussions. Ruto's agenda includes discussions on trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, health, agriculture, and technology. The engagement with Kenyans in the US is part of broader efforts to strengthen ties with Kenyans living abroad and encourage their participation in the country's economic development.

During the meeting, Ruto warned against electing what he described as "a fool" as President, emphasizing that leadership is more crucial to Kenya's future than the country's natural resources. He argued that unsuitable leadership could hinder the country from achieving its potential. Ruto's comments highlight the significance of informed decision-making in the electoral process.

The President's visit to the US and engagement with the diaspora reflect the government's efforts to promote Kenya's investment agenda and strengthen ties with Kenyans abroad. The launch of the Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform and Ruto's address to the diaspora underscore the government's commitment to encouraging the diaspora's participation in the country's economic development and promoting informed leadership choices.
