Kenyan President William Ruto has pledged to support the funeral arrangements for the 17 families who lost their loved ones in a recent road accident in Salama. According to Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, President Ruto personally called him to offer his condolences and promised to support the bereaved families with their burial arrangements. This gesture by the President aims to alleviate some of the burden on the families during this difficult time.

The accident victims' bodies are being preserved at Jocham Hospital mortuary in Mombasa, with nine bodies already arrived and the remaining eight expected to follow. Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has been tasked by President Ruto to ensure the families receive the necessary support. Dr. Omollo is in contact with Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Noor to coordinate the arrangements, which include transporting the bodies to their respective destinations in Nyanza, Ukambani, and Central Kenya.

A delegation led by Mr. Martin Obwaka collected the bodies from Salama and brought them to Mombasa, where they were received at around 4 am on Monday. The delegation ensured the bodies were properly preserved before leaving the morgue at about 6 am. The bodies will remain at Jocham Hospital mortuary as the families and the church make arrangements for their final send-off.

Leaders in Mombasa have joined hands to condole with the families who lost their loved ones in the accident. Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Nassir disclosed that only one of the 17 bodies was yet to be identified. He assured the families and the church that the county government would support them through the process and announced that he was working with his Makueni counterpart, Mutula Kilonzo, to coordinate the post-mortem examination.

The county government's support for the families includes catering for the costs associated with the burial arrangements. Governor Nassir urged the families not to worry about anything, adding that the county government would take care of everything. This commitment by the county government aims to ease some of the pain and burden on the families during this difficult time.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has called for a thorough investigation into the crash, saying those responsible should be held accountable. He emphasized the need for authorities to establish the cause of the crash and ensure the bereaved families receive justice. This call for a thorough investigation aims to bring closure to the families and ensure that such accidents do not recur in the future.
