President William Ruto on Saturday inspected the construction of the 20-kilometre Endebess-Kolongei-Matumbei-Salama Road in Trans Nzoia County. The project, being implemented at a cost of Sh1.1 billion, aims to improve connectivity along the route. The road project is part of the government's efforts to advance road infrastructure in the county. Ruto's inspection was part of his visit to Trans Nzoia County.

The government is investing heavily in road infrastructure projects in Trans Nzoia County, with eight projects covering 292 kilometres under construction at a total investment of Sh18 billion. The Endebess-Kolongei-Matumbei-Salama Road project is one of the key initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity in the region. Once completed, the road is expected to link the areas covered by the project, improving access and transportation.

During his visit, Ruto also inspected the Endebess Sub-County Hospital Mother and Child Complex, which is 88 per cent complete and scheduled for completion by the end of the year. The facility will include a radiology unit, an accident and emergency unit, a maternal and child health wing, and an outpatient department. The complex will also have a 26-bed maternity unit and 54 cots for newborns.

The Endebess Sub-County Hospital Mother and Child Complex is expected to expand access to specialised maternal and child healthcare services, bringing essential medical care closer to residents. The facility will provide critical healthcare services to the local community, improving health outcomes and reducing maternal and child mortality rates.

Ruto also participated in activities marking Mazingira Day in Endebess, where he distributed cocoa seedlings to farmers. The initiative aims to promote tree-growing activities that protect the environment while providing farmers with an additional source of income. The President also unveiled aerial seeding technology to complement tree-planting efforts and accelerate forest restoration.

The President launched the Mt Elgon Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme Strategic Plan 2026-2036, which seeks to restore degraded forests, protect water resources, and improve the livelihoods of communities around Mt Elgon. Ruto thanked Kenyans who participated in the tree-planting exercise in support of the target to plant 5.3 million trees to mark Mazingira Day.

Ruto urged Kenyans to sustain the effort to plant trees, as the country works towards growing 15 billion trees by 2032 to combat climate change and restore the environment. The President's visit to Trans Nzoia County highlighted the government's commitment to infrastructure development, healthcare, and environmental conservation.
