President William Ruto commenced an 8-day development tour of the Coast region, covering Taita-Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River, and Lamu counties. Kwale County will receive 94,175 title deeds for beneficiaries in Lunga Lunga, Msambweni, and Kinango constituencies. Kilifi County residents of Kaloleni, Rabai, Ganze, Kilifi South, and Malindi constituencies will receive 36,826 title deeds. Additionally, 4,360 title deeds will be provided in Mombasa County, and 22,770 in Lamu and Tana River counties.
The title deed distribution program is part of President Ruto's efforts to resolve historical and administrative land challenges in the Coast region. The documents will provide formal ownership and enable beneficiaries to utilize their land for economic development. For many beneficiaries, the title deeds will offer greater certainty over land ownership after years of waiting for formal documentation.
President Ruto will also commission completed development projects, inspect ongoing ones, and launch new projects in the six counties. The President will break ground for the $16 billion (Ksh.2 trillion) Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu, a joint project between the Kenyan government and Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote.
The Dangote East Africa Refinery is expected to process crude from Lokichar, Turkana County, and other East African, Southern African, and international markets. The refinery will supply refined petroleum products to these markets, enhancing Kenya's energy security with a reliable supply of petroleum products. The project is also anticipated to create more than 60,000 jobs.
