The Russia-Africa Summit, which began on Wednesday in Moscow, is a historic event that will redefine international relations, especially among Global South countries. According to Alexander Zaspkin, a professor of political science and international relations, this summit is a crucial geopolitical moment that will change the nature of international relations. The event is taking place at a sensitive time on the international stage, with rising tensions.

The summit is part of an ongoing process of discussions aimed at expanding cooperation between Russia and African countries, including energy, gas, economy, and humanitarian work. This reflects the growing partnership between the two sides. Zaspkin noted that Russian-African relations are no longer limited to traditional areas like wheat and commodity trade but have expanded to modern technologies and new areas of cooperation.

The current confrontation with the West is driving Moscow to expand its focus towards the East and South, strengthening relations with Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Russian foreign policy is based on principles such as establishing partnerships on an equal and just basis. Zaspkin emphasized that President Vladimir Putin has outlined the prospects for relations between Moscow and African capitals and the future of a continent undergoing significant transformations.

The summit has attracted significant participation, with 28 countries, including 22 at the level of presidents and heads of government, as well as representatives of most African regional organizations and over 4,000 businessmen. This reflects the interest in strengthening relations between the two sides. The event will see the signing of 33 documents, including agreements, memoranda of understanding, and commercial contracts.
