The Rivers State Government has ordered the immediate relocation of students and staff of Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, to State Primary School, Nkpolo, in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. This decision was made following severe flooding of the school premises. The relocation order took effect from yesterday, according to a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor.

According to Nwagor, the temporary measure was necessary to safeguard the lives, safety, and overall well-being of students and staff affected by the flooding. The school premises had been taken over by floodwater, making it unsafe for academic activities. This necessitated the immediate movement of the school community to a safer location.

A team from the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee had earlier visited the school to assess the extent of the flooding and determine the appropriate response. The committee is currently working to identify the causes of the flooding and develop a lasting solution to the problem. Measures are being considered for immediate, medium, and long-term flood prevention and management in the affected area.

The State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and welfare of students while ensuring that the flooding does not result in prolonged disruption to their education. The Commissioner assured that the temporary relocation would enable teaching and learning to continue in a safer environment while efforts are made to address the flooding challenge at the affected school.

Dr. Nwagor urged students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to cooperate with the temporary arrangement as authorities work towards finding a permanent solution to the problem. The relocation is expected to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for the students.

The Rivers State Government is working to mitigate the effects of the flooding and prevent future occurrences. The government is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students and staff in the affected area.

The temporary relocation of the school is a proactive measure to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. The government will continue to work towards finding a lasting solution to the flooding problem and providing a conducive learning environment for students.
