Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has introduced its fifth weekly non-stop flight between Sao Paulo and Casablanca, marking a significant milestone in its expansion plans. This move comes less than two years after the airline resumed operations in the South American market. The additional frequency is part of RAM's strategy to strengthen its presence in Brazil and enhance connectivity to over 100 destinations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The new flight, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, responds to growing demand and anticipates the start of the European winter season, a crucial period for Brazilian tour operators and travel agents. With this addition, RAM's flights from Sao Paulo are now scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, while flights from Casablanca depart on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Othman Baba, RAM's regional director for South America, emphasized that increasing flight frequencies opens up more opportunities for travelers to discover Morocco or connect to other destinations via Casablanca. The airline's growth plan aligns with Morocco's tourism ambitions, following a record 19.8 million international tourists in 2025, including 60,000 Brazilian visitors, representing a 35% increase from the previous year.
The Sao Paulo-Casablanca route has shown promising performance, carrying around 80,000 passengers in both directions in 2025, with an average load factor of 84% and a punctuality rate of 98%. This growth supports Morocco's infrastructure and urban mobility projects, particularly with the country co-hosting the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
RAM's expansion is part of its strategic plan for 2023-2037, aiming to increase its fleet to 200 aircraft and transport 32 million passengers annually by the end of the period, up from 7.5 million in 2024. The airline has also committed to sustainability, completing its first flight powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in 2025.
The airline plans to offer daily flights from Sao Paulo by 2028 and launch a new route to Rio de Janeiro by the end of 2027. This development enhances RAM's position as a major carrier, with a four-star rating from Skytrax and membership in the oneworld global alliance.
As RAM continues to grow, it aims to solidify its status as an intercontinental airline, with a focus on sustainability and expanding its network. The additional flight to Sao Paulo and future plans for Rio de Janeiro are key steps in achieving these goals, supporting both Morocco's tourism industry and the airline's strategic objectives.
