The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, under Rotary International District 9112, has undertaken a significant educational intervention at Badore Community Primary School in Eti-Osa Local Council of Lagos State. On September 25, 2026, the club unveiled the renovation of a Junior Secondary School classroom, complete with new furniture and learning materials. This project was part of Rotary's Basic Education and Literacy Month celebrations.
The classroom renovation was made possible by a N2 million grant from Rotary District 9112 and a N567,500 contribution from Akinlabi Akintayo, the club's Immediate Past Service Projects Chair. The renovation included the installation of an 84-square-metre grooved PVC ceiling, repairs and repainting of metal doors and windows, and rehabilitation of cracked walls. The classroom was also furnished with new desks, benches, tables, and chairs for teachers.
In addition to the classroom renovation, the Rotary Club donated 2,300 jotters and exercise books to pupils and students. Onward Paper Mill Ltd sponsored the learning materials, while the Rotary Club provided 1,000 biros and 120 Oxford mathematical sets. These donations aim to support the educational needs of the students at Badore Community Primary School.
The intervention also included financial literacy sessions conducted by representatives of IGI Insurance and GTI Group. These sessions taught pupils about savings, investment, and insurance. Furthermore, the programme featured sessions on character development and hygiene, as well as a reading plan introduced to sustain the pupils' interest in reading.
At the handover ceremony, Rotary Club President Abiodun Olawale-Cole emphasized that the intervention was designed to provide lasting benefits to generations of pupils. He noted that the project reflected Rotary's theme for the year, "Create Lasting Impact." The club president expressed gratitude to the district, sponsors, club members, and other supporters for their contributions.
The Rotary Club's efforts to support education extend beyond Badore Community Primary School. At Ilasan Secondary School, Ikate, Lekki, which hosts the club's Interact Club, the Rotary Club donated books and other learning materials to students. The club plans to monitor attendance and the use of the renovated classroom each term and is considering a larger grant to renovate other classrooms at the school.
Additional support was provided by club members and friends, including Chidera Okafor, who is sponsoring a full year of school uniforms for a new Badore pupil. The club president also provided food and drinks for about 50 pupils who participated in the literacy activities, with additional support from a Friend of Rotary, Mr Leke, as well as Rotarians Ulari and Marvel.
