The Root Foundation, a non-profit organization, recently honored students who excelled in the national exams that concluded the 2025/2026 academic year. On September 26, 2026, the foundation awarded prizes to students who demonstrated exceptional performance in their studies. Among the recipients was Bigirimana Patrick, a student from Muhabura Polytechnic Integrated College, who emerged as the top performer nationwide in tourism studies.
Bigirimana attributed his success to the support he received from the Root Foundation, guidance from his teachers, and his own hard work. He encouraged young people to set goals and avoid substance abuse, which he believes can hinder their progress and prevent them from achieving their objectives. Dunia noted that some students who join the foundation have faced challenges such as poverty or family conflicts, which can lead to them dropping out of school. He emphasized the importance of addressing these issues to enable students to continue their education.
The Root Foundation primarily focuses on assisting underprivileged children, particularly those from low-income families or dysfunctional households, some of whom have been forced to live on the streets. The organization, founded by Cheez Muragwa and Patrick Kiruhura in 2012, has provided educational support to over 1,500 children, with more than 50 of them pursuing higher education.
The foundation operates in the Kagugu sector, Kinyinya district, and collaborates with children and parents to facilitate their return to school, develop their talents, and continue their education.
