The Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has collaborated with digital television group, MultiChoice, to float a culture content platform. This initiative aims to promote the state's tourism potentials and provide opportunities for content entrepreneurs and filmmakers. The platform will enable creatives in the state to showcase their talents and sell the state's tourism potentials.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, disclosed this after a meeting with MultiChoice Head of Content Acquisition, Don Dotun Ojon, in Port Harcourt. He assured that the platform would provide a new lease of life for the industry in the state. Ndigbara stated that Rivers State has many untold stories to tell and numerous contents to reel out.
The collaboration follows a meeting between Ojon and Ndigbara at the Rivers International Film Festival (RIFF) in Bonny. Ojon was impressed by the numerous sites and opportunities open to creatives in the state. He described Rivers State as a hub with numerous potentials for film tourism. The MultiChoice M-net is now open to increasing its patronage for content shots on locations in Rivers State.
Don Ojon said the visit was to discuss ways of promoting tourism in the state using creatives and film. Although MultiChoice has recently been acquired by Canal+ France and is undergoing restructuring, Ojon expressed willingness to promote Rivers State as a potential host for the MultiChoice talent factory. He called for collaboration from stakeholders in the state to build a fresh crop of creatives, new locations, and storylines.
Ojon identified Rivers State as a capable location to host the MultiChoice talent factory, citing its potential to build new creative talents. Asaba, the capital of Delta State, is saturated, making Rivers State the next port. The state is expected to provide new locations, storylines, and concepts for film production.
The partnership between the Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and MultiChoice is expected to boost the state's film industry. Creatives in the state are expected to seize this opportunity to showcase their talents and promote the state's tourism potentials. The initiative is also expected to create new opportunities for content entrepreneurs and filmmakers.
