The Chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State, Fredrick Nwoje, has defended the party's decision to join the Rainbow Coalition, led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to Nwoje, the coalition represents a model of inclusive politics that prioritises governance over party differences. This move is seen as a strategic effort to put the interests of the state above partisan considerations.

The Rainbow Coalition has been gaining traction in Rivers State, with leaders and stakeholders from various parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, and Labour Party, coming together. Nwoje praised Wike's approach, describing it as a masterclass in progressive politics and statesmanship. He noted that Wike has demonstrated the capacity to work with people across political divides, showcasing a commitment to governance over party loyalty.

Nwoje also commended Wike's support for President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the minister's decision to work within the federal administration despite his PDP background. This move has been seen as a display of political courage and pragmatism. Furthermore, Nwoje criticised recent comments attributed to the APC Governors Forum concerning Wike, urging political actors to focus on governance and constructive engagement rather than political disagreements.

The Labour Party chairman emphasised that political differences should not distract from the work of governance. He stressed that the focus should remain on delivering development and representing the interests of Nigerians. Nwoje also assured Labour Party members and leaders across the 23 local government areas to remain calm, steadfast, and focused, as the party is a significant stakeholder in the coalition.

According to Nwoje, the Labour Party will continue to engage in discussions aimed at securing a fair and meaningful place for its members in the coalition. He expressed confidence in the party's national leadership and its ongoing discussions with other political stakeholders, adding that the interests of Labour Party members would be protected.

Nwoje also called on Rivers youths and other residents to support initiatives that promote political cooperation, peace, and development in the state. He believes that the Rainbow Coalition has the potential to drive positive change and promote a more inclusive and collaborative approach to governance in Rivers State.

The Labour Party's decision to join the Rainbow Coalition has significant implications for the state's political landscape. As a major stakeholder, the party is expected to play a key role in shaping the coalition's agenda and ensuring that its members' interests are represented.
