The successful candidate will be based in Kampala, Uganda, and will be responsible for preparing and processing import, export, and transit customs declarations. The Declarations Officer will play a critical role in managing export transshipment documentation and customs procedures from origin through exit. This will involve processing customs entries through the URA ASYCUDA World system and coordinating customs clearance with URA, shipping lines, transporters, and clients. The ideal candidate should have a Diploma/Degree in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics and Supply Chain, or a related field, and a valid URA Certificate in Clearing and Forwarding.
To qualify for the position, applicants must have completed a minimum of at least 2 CP trainings within the current year and have at least 3 years of progressive working experience in a similar role. Proven experience in handling transshipment accounts for both exports and imports is also required. Additionally, applicants should have a minimum of 2 CPDs with URA and a URA Clearing and Forwarding Certificate. Experience in working in a Transit Yard environment is highly desirable.
The Declarations Officer will be responsible for coordinating container stuffing, cross-stuffing, sealing, and customs verification, as well as managing Transit Yard customs activities and ensuring compliance with all customs regulations. The successful candidate will also be required to monitor declaration status and ensure the timely release of cargo. Preparing customs reports and maintaining accurate declaration records will also be part of the job responsibilities.
In addition to the technical skills and experience, the ideal candidate should possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in customs and MS Office is also required. The Declarations Officer will be expected to support clients on customs compliance requirements and liaise with Customs Officers, TMU, Port Authorities, and other government agencies.
