The Rhema Christian Church and Towers recently celebrated its Friends and Family Day at the Champion Peace Cathedral in Ogun State, Nigeria. The event, part of preparations for the church's 35th anniversary and annual global Convention, brought together clergy, traditional rulers, and members from various walks of life. Archbishop Taiwo Akinola, the Presiding Archbishop of Rhema Christian Church, delivered the keynote message, urging Christians to reject limitations and relentlessly pursue their God-given destinies.
Archbishop Akinola emphasized that continual advancement is part of God's purpose for believers, citing Genesis 26:13, which states that Isaac "waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great." He described Isaac's experience as a model of progressive advancement for believers, encouraging them to refuse stagnation and rise above circumstances that seek to prevent them from fulfilling their divine assignments.
The archbishop identified covenant identity as a foundation for overcoming limitations, urging believers not to allow their background, past failures, or present circumstances to determine their future. He cited 1 John 5:4, which states that "whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world," and pointed to biblical personalities like Deborah, Esther, and Jephthah, whose experiences demonstrated the power of covenant identity.
Archbishop Akinola also emphasized the importance of renewing the mind, citing Romans 12:2, and stressed that transformation begins internally before becoming visible externally. He urged Christians to continually meditate on the Word of God, as faith grows through hearing God's Word, and fear and doubt can give way to confidence when the mind is aligned with biblical truth.
The archbishop highlighted the need for obedience, citing biblical examples of breakthroughs associated with obedience, such as the crossing of the Red Sea and River Jordan, and the fall of the walls of Jericho. He stressed that divine power operates within divine order and that believers cannot consistently claim God's promises while neglecting His principles.
The Friends and Family Day also provided an opportunity for engagement and fellowship with traditional institutions in the Ado-Odo/Ota axis, with traditional rulers represented at the event. The presence of clergy, political stakeholders, families, and friends underscored the importance of community fellowship, collaboration, and unity. Attention now turns to the Rhema World Convention, scheduled to hold from November 1 to 8, 2026, at the Champion Peace Cathedral.
The Rhema World Convention, themed "More Than Conquerors" and anchored on Romans 8:37, will also mark the church's 35th anniversary. Archbishop Akinola called on members, friends, families, and well-wishers to participate actively in the convention and support its vision. The event aims to celebrate God's faithfulness while looking ahead with renewed commitment to its mission.
