Ex-Kogi State deputy governor Edward Onoja has proposed that a complete return to the local government system is the solution to Nigeria's persistent insecurity. According to Onoja, the dearth of the local government system is the reason insecurity has lingered in Nigeria. As a board member of the South-East Development Commission, Onoja emphasized that this is the only panacea to insecurity in the country. He made these remarks in an interview, sharing his thoughts on various issues.

Onoja was recently ordained as a deacon by the United Evangelical Church in his hometown, Ogugu, Kogi State. The ordination, which took place on October 25, signifies a higher calling and greater responsibility in serving the church and humanity. Onoja believes that his new role will complement his political calling, enabling him to maintain a high moral standard and integrity. He is confident that this will enhance his leadership and administration skills.

Onoja has been an active participant in politics for nearly two decades, dating back to the 2006/2007 elections. He has served as chief of staff and deputy governor to former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello. Onoja currently serves on the board of the South-East Development Commission, courtesy of President Bola Tinubu's appointment. He emphasizes that politics is a competition to serve the people, not a war.

Recently, Onoja received congratulatory messages from Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, the ADC senatorial candidate in Kogi East, following his ordination. Onoja, a member of the APC, believes that relating with candidates from other parties is essential in politics. He notes that at his level, he is no longer restricted to interacting only with members of his party. Onoja's approach to politics has allowed him to maintain relationships with people across different parties.

Onoja attributes his longevity in politics to his faith in God. He believes that God inspired him to get into politics, and whether in or out of office, he will continue to serve. Onoja currently serves on the board of the South-East Development Commission, interacting with the North Central and South-East regions. He sees this as an opportunity to serve his people in a different capacity.

Recently, Afrobeats star Davido visited Onoja's community in Kogi State. Contrary to speculation, Davido's visit was to Onoja's brother's housewarming ceremony. Onoja's brother, Dr. Enemona Joseph, invited Davido, and Onoja attended as a guest. Onoja expressed his admiration for Davido's music and was glad to meet him.

Onoja recently met with incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, and other officials. The meeting aimed to resolve past differences and provide space for growth and learning. Onoja emphasized that the meeting was not a quarrel or fight but an opportunity to reflect and improve. The meeting also included Jamiu Asuku, Onoja's former chief of staff, and Yusuf Okala, the state auditor-general.
