Residents of Wassa Domama in the Wassa East District of Ghana's Western Region are living in fear due to a surge in attacks during funerals and social gatherings. The attacks, allegedly carried out by groups of people, have created a sense of insecurity, making it difficult for residents to participate in community activities. The situation has become so dire that some youth are now afraid to intervene when someone is in danger, for fear of being attacked themselves.

The Chief of Wassa Domama, Nana Tweneboah Ntow II, has confirmed that his subjects are indeed living in fear. He revealed that some groups of people had attacked his subjects and that he had officially reported the matter to the Western Regional Police Commander. However, no action has been taken so far, according to the chief. Nana Tweneboah Ntow II is now appealing to the police to investigate the matter, arrest those responsible, and ensure they face the law.

The chief believes that swift police intervention will help restore confidence among residents and prevent further attacks. In addition to the security concerns, Nana Tweneboah Ntow II also touched on the issue of illegal mining in Wassa Domama. He disclosed that galamsey activities are ongoing in the community and appealed to the Western Regional Office of the Minerals Commission to educate residents on responsible and regulated small-scale mining practices.

According to the chief, if properly regulated, small-scale mining activities could contribute to the development of the community while also generating revenue for the government. The residents and the chief are now calling for urgent intervention from the police, traditional authorities, and other relevant institutions to address the security concerns and ensure lasting peace in Wassa Domama.

The appeals for help have been made to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Western Regional Police Commander, and the Local Council of Chiefs. The residents and the chief are hopeful that the authorities will take immediate action to end the alleged attacks and ensure the safety of everyone in the community.

The situation in Wassa Domama has become a source of concern for the local authorities, who are yet to comment on the matter. However, with the chief and residents appealing for help, it is expected that the authorities will take steps to address the security concerns and restore peace in the community.

The incident highlights the need for effective community policing and collaboration between traditional authorities and law enforcement agencies to address security concerns in rural communities.
