A member of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has launched an initiative to empower and mobilise one million Yoruba residents across Kano State's 44 local government areas. Abejide disclosed the initiative at the palace of the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, shortly after unveiling the committee. The lawmaker said the programme would target various categories of Yoruba residents in Kano, including vulnerable and less privileged persons. He emphasised that the programme's success would depend on the committee's ability to reach the intended beneficiaries.
Coordinator of the committee, Seyi Olorunsola, assured that members would work collectively to achieve the programme's objectives. He commended Abejide for the initiative, saying it would engage Yoruba residents across Kano State, strengthen community participation, and provide economic support to families, particularly widows and other vulnerable groups.
Olorunsola said the committee would work to ensure that the programme reaches the targeted beneficiaries across the 44 local government areas. The initiative is also aimed at mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
