The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has launched a toll-free helpline to encourage residents to report consumer-related violations, including fake, expired, adulterated, and counterfeit products. The helpline, 080 0005 2726, provides a direct and accessible channel for consumers to report violations, seek guidance, and get timely action from the agency. This initiative aims to enhance consumer protection in Lagos State.
According to Afolabi Solebo, the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, the toll-free line is part of the agency's efforts to engage with residents and address consumer protection concerns. Solebo urged residents to report consumer-related violations rather than relying solely on social media. He emphasized the importance of providing verifiable evidence to facilitate investigation and enforcement.
The LASCOPA boss advised consumers to verify product details, prices, sellers, and terms and conditions before making payments, particularly when purchasing goods and services online. He also urged residents to carefully examine product labels and confirm information such as the manufacturer's details, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients, and usage instructions before purchasing products.
Residents can also report consumer-related violations through LASCOPA's email, [email protected] , and its social media handles on Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter), all @lascopa. Solebo stressed that timely, credible complaints help the agency detect violations and take enforcement action. He emphasized that consumer protection is a shared responsibility among government, businesses, and consumers.
The helpline can be used to report concerns involving fake and counterfeit products, expired or adulterated goods, defective products, misleading advertisements, and unfair business practices. Consumers can also report poor services, online shopping disputes, and other suspected consumer protection violations. This initiative aims to promote a safe and fair marketplace in Lagos State.
Solebo called on Lagos residents to remain vigilant and actively participate in efforts to safeguard the marketplace from practices capable of undermining consumers' rights and safety. He encouraged residents to question and report suspicious products or practices, emphasizing that "if you see it, question it. If you suspect it, report it. Tell it to LASCOPA."
The introduction of the toll-free helpline is part of LASCOPA's efforts to enhance consumer protection in Lagos State. By providing a direct channel for reporting consumer-related violations, the agency aims to promote a safe and fair marketplace. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative to report any consumer protection concerns.
