Renault has announced the pricing of the Triber Turbo in India, giving a preview of what to expect from the upcoming South African market arrival. The turbocharged model will top the Triber range, using the same 1.0-litre engine three-cylinder engine that powers the Kiger and Nissan Magnite. The engine, officially called TCe 100, develops 100 pferdestarke (PS), which equates to 74 kW.
The Triber Turbo has the same power output as its siblings but more torque, with an output of 180 Nm, 20 Nm more than the Magnite and Kiger. A five-speed manual gearbox is available for the Triber Turbo. Renault reports that the vehicle consumes unleaded at a rate of 4.8 L/100 km and features a new cooling fan that improves energy efficiency and thermal management.
The Triber Turbo is built on the CMF-A platform, which also underpins the Triber’s Nissan twin, the Gravite. The vehicle has undergone structural changes to accommodate the added power and torque. These changes include new front and rear anti-roll bars, stronger brakes, variable dampers, and revised suspension geometry.
Visually, the Triber Turbo is unchanged from its normally aspirated sibling, with the same seven-seat layout and boot space. The interior also remains the same, offering up to six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, rear air-conditioning vents, climate control, and a wireless smartphone charging pad, depending on the trim level.
The Triber Turbo features an eight-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, and a multi-function steering wheel. The vehicle is available with up to 15-inch imitation alloy or flex-wheel covers. In India, the Triber Turbo is available in three of the four trim levels, with prices ranging from Rs 784 900 for the Evolution to Rs 899 900 for the flagship Emotion.
The prices of the Triber Turbo in India equate to between R134 308 and R153 987 when directly converted and without taxes. Renault South Africa has yet to confirm a launch date for the Triber Turbo. However, once launched locally, the vehicle is expected to have a considerable price premium over the free-breathing 1.0-litre, whose stickers range from R218 999 to R259 999.
