A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, has called on traditional rulers in Ekpeye Kingdom, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, to remain neutral in political matters. He made the call during his 65th birthday celebration in Ochiba, his country home, on Sunday. Nwuche, who is also the Chairman of the South-South Development Commission, emphasized the importance of monarchs maintaining their dignity and respect among their subjects.

Nwuche warned that the participation of monarchs in partisan politics could lead to disaffection among their subjects and diminish the respect attached to the traditional institution. He stated that the role of a traditional ruler is to be a father to all, irrespective of party affinities. According to him, it is inappropriate for a royal father to engage in partisan politics.

The former Deputy Speaker expressed concern about the behavior of some kings who participate in political rallies, wear regalia, and dance as politicians. He mentioned that he was instrumental in the emergence of some of these kings and is now advising them to change their ways and stay away from politics. Nwuche emphasized that a king must have honor and dignity.

In addition to his call for neutrality in politics, Nwuche advocated for an amnesty program for repentant cultists in the area. He believes that this measure would help improve security and enable residents to return to farming without fear. According to Nwuche, many young people in the area are involved in cult activities and carrying guns, which is a threat to peace and stability.

Nwuche expressed hope that an amnesty program would be introduced before the end of the year. He emphasized that he does not want to see young people from the area killed. The former Deputy Speaker urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu and candidates of the APC and the Renewed Hope Coalition in the 2027 elections.

During his 65th birthday celebration, Nwuche thanked widows and Christian faithful who attended the prayer session organized to mark the occasion. He pledged to continue supporting widows, orphans, and other vulnerable people in the area. Other activities marking the anniversary included a visit to the Adventist Rehabilitation, Welfare and Orphanage Home in Edeoha, Ukpata Kingdom, and a novelty football match in Ahoada town.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, and Nwuche used the opportunity to call on the people of Ekpeye Kingdom to unite for the development of the area. As a prominent figure in the region, Nwuche's advice to traditional rulers is expected to have a significant impact on the community.
