Redeemer’s University, located in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, recently held its 4th Induction ceremony for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy class of 2026. During the event, 89 new physiotherapists were inducted into the profession. The ceremony took place at the institution’s auditorium and was attended by notable figures in the field of physiotherapy. The inductees were encouraged to strive for excellence and uphold the highest standards of their profession.
The Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Prof Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, represented by Prof Chiagoziem Otuechere, congratulated the inductees on their milestone achievement. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and ethical conduct in physiotherapy, stating that society expects healthcare professionals to demonstrate integrity, accountability, and compassion. The Vice Chancellor also commended the parents and guardians of the inductees for their support and contributions to their children’s success.
The keynote speaker, Prof Adesola Ojoawo, a professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, delivered a lecture on the theme of the ceremony: Professionalism and Ethical Conduct in Physiotherapy. He explained the concept of professionalism and its ingredients, including confidence, ethical behaviors, respect, and stability. Prof Ojoawo advised the inductees to invest in knowledge acquisition, attend seminars and conferences, and be part of professional organizations.
Prof Ojoawo further emphasized the importance of continuous learning and professional development. He encouraged the inductees to buy books, open their minds to new ideas, and learn something new every day. The keynote speaker also commended the university for its commitment to producing well-rounded physiotherapists.
During the ceremony, awards were given to outstanding students and personalities. Uhnmwahho Eghosa E. was awarded as the Best Graduating Student, while Dauda Anjolaoluwa received the award for Best in Research. Aderibigbe Oluwandabira A. was recognized as the Best in Clinicals, and Ajala Adedoyin P. received the Leadership award. Others who received awards include Olutiola Bolanle D. as the Best Behaved Male and Oluwatayo Oluwadamilola as the Best Behaved Female.
In addition to the student awards, Awards of Recognition were given to notable personalities who contributed to the success of the ceremony. The Keynote speaker, Prof Adesola Ojoawo, received an award, as well as the University’s Registrar, Prof Ahmad Rufai. Others who received awards include CMD, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, and Dr Segun Oluwafemi. A Meritorious Award was also given to the Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Prof Shadrach Olufemi Akindele.
The induction ceremony marked the successful completion of a rigorous academic and professional journey for the new physiotherapists.
