The story of late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be projected on the iconic KICC tower in Nairobi at 7 pm today as his supporters mark the beginning of a month dedicated to his memory. This projection is part of nationwide candlelight ceremonies organised by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to honour Raila, popularly known as Baba. The events aim to bring together Raila's family, political allies, ODM supporters, and members of the public.

Raila's widow, Ida Odinga, has called on Kenyans from all walks of life to participate in the candlelight events being held across the country from 6 pm. She described the lighting of candles as an important way of honouring Raila as the country enters the month in which he died. Ida urged Kenyans to light candles as a tribute to Raila, saying the gesture would be a fitting honour.

The ODM has organised candlelight ceremonies in several counties, with Nairobi's main event set for Uhuru Park from 3 pm. Other listed venues include Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds in Kisumu, Treasury Square in Mombasa, William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok, Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu, Lodwar Baraza Park in Turkana, and Kajiado town. In Migori, the event will be held at Posta Grounds.

The nationwide events are being held under the theme “Mwezi wa Baba”, with the party dedicating October to remembering Raila and his contribution to Kenya's political and public life. The ceremonies are expected to bring together Raila's family, political allies, ODM supporters, and members of the public. ODM communications director P.A. Etale said other venues would be communicated for purposes of media coverage.

Raila died on October 15, 2025, and the candlelight ceremonies are expected to take place against a backdrop of renewed public reflection on Raila's decades-long political career and his influence on Kenya's democratic and political development. The events will provide an opportunity for Kenyans to reflect on Raila's legacy and pay tribute to his contributions.

In Nairobi, the projection on KICC is expected to provide a major visual feature of the day's events, with images and the story of Raila being displayed on one of the capital's most recognisable landmarks. The projection will be a significant way to honour Raila's memory and provide a focal point for the events in Nairobi.
