Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, will lead a delegation of seven North-west state governors to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. They will present the North-west Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030, a regional approach to peace, security, resilience, and development. This framework is a major step in the evolution of the North-west Governors’ Forum from regional consultations to a coordinated development agenda.
The presentation will take place at a high-level side event titled ‘From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts.’ The event will bring together development partners, investors, financial institutions, and private-sector leaders. According to the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Radda, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, this marks a significant milestone in the North-west Governors’ Forum's efforts to address shared challenges and establish a common pathway for peace, security, and sustainable development.
The framework was developed with the support of the United Nations system, particularly the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and engagement from the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina J. Mohammed. It aims to serve as a basis for stronger regional cooperation and partnerships to address insecurity, strengthen resilience, and accelerate socio-economic development across the region. The framework emerged from efforts by the governors to build consensus around shared challenges confronting the region.
During the New York engagement, Governor Radda and other governors will seek international partnerships, financing, and private-sector investment to support the implementation of the framework. The side event will focus on securing stronger partnerships, financing, and private investment under the regional message: Seven States. One Ambition. This approach highlights the collective ambition of the North-west states to transform their challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth.
The regional agenda will highlight investment opportunities in various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, energy, technology, mining, and human capital development. By presenting these opportunities, the governors aim to attract investors and accelerate socio-economic development across the region. This presentation underscores the forum's transition from developing a shared regional position to taking the North-west's collective peace, security, and development agenda to the global stage.
The North-west Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030 is expected to address issues of peace, security, and sustainable development in the region.
