Quality Beverages Limited (QBL), a leading manufacturer in Mauritius, has launched a new PET packaging line, investing over Rs 330 million in the project. The new line aims to increase production capacity, optimize resource utilization, and promote the use of recycled materials. The company, part of the Currimjee Group, has been operating in Mauritius for over 70 years. The new installation was officially opened on September 28, 2026, with several high-profile guests in attendance.

The new PET packaging line has significantly boosted QBL's production capacity, increasing it from 7,500 to 18,000 bottles per hour, with a target of 30,000 bottles per hour by 2028. This represents a four-fold increase in production capacity, enabling QBL to better meet demand, strengthen local production, and support growth over the next decade. The company's Managing Director, Inigo de Prado, highlighted the importance of the new line in driving business growth and sustainability.

The new line features advanced automation technology, which not only improves operational efficiency but also enables employees to develop higher-value skills. The installation also has a significant environmental impact, consuming 56% less electricity per bottle produced and saving approximately 8 million liters of water per year. This aligns with QBL's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices.

The project has received financial support from the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), which is committed to helping businesses modernize their infrastructure and transition to more efficient and sustainable operations. MCB's Head of Mauritian and Regional Corporates, Aldo Sydonie, emphasized the importance of balancing industrial performance with environmental responsibility, highlighting the value of the project in creating sustainable growth for both QBL and the Mauritian economy.

The new PET packaging line is part of QBL's broader strategy to adopt a circular approach to plastic, incorporating more recycled materials into its production process. This move is expected to contribute to a reduction in waste and promote sustainable practices throughout the company's operations. The company's commitment to sustainability has been recognized by various stakeholders, including government officials and industry partners.

The launch of the new PET packaging line has been welcomed by government officials, including the Minister of Industry, SMEs, and Cooperatives, Aadil Ameer Meea, and the Minister of Environment, Waste Management, and Climate Change, Rajesh Bhagwan. The project demonstrates the potential for businesses to drive economic growth while prioritizing environmental sustainability, setting a positive example for other companies in Mauritius.

The new PET packaging line is a significant investment in Mauritius' manufacturing sector, highlighting the country's potential for growth and development. With QBL's commitment to sustainability and innovation, the company is well-positioned to drive business growth and contribute to the country's economic development. The project also underscores the importance of partnerships between businesses, government, and financial institutions in driving sustainable growth and development.
