Puma Energy Ghana has partnered with five local Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distributors to support the government's goal of achieving 50% LPG penetration by 2030 through the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM). The five distributors are Earth Energy, Sandhill Oil and Gas, Riet Company Ltd, Hamcom, and StepGas. This partnership aims to strengthen the CRM by shifting LPG distribution from traditional fuel stations to a more decentralized, neighborhood-oriented retail network.

The agreements were signed in Accra, with industry players, government representatives, and community leaders in attendance. The signing ceremony highlighted the potential of the model to support large-scale LPG distribution. At the center of the partnership is Puma Energy's "3y3 Good Exchange" initiative, which allows customers to exchange old cylinders for new, approved, and safe cylinders at no cost.

The "3y3 Good Exchange" initiative aims to remove barriers to access to safe and affordable LPG, improve indoor air quality, and establish more reliable and professionally managed distribution channels. According to Lanzeni Coulibaly, General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, the company is introducing a new distribution philosophy aimed at bringing safe and affordable energy closer to Ghanaians.

The partnership is expected to improve access to LPG, particularly for consumers in peri-urban and rural communities where access has historically been limited. Under the CRM, consumers can exchange empty cylinders for pre-filled, safety-verified cylinders, making LPG use more convenient, reliable, and safe. The integration of the five distributors into Puma Energy's supply chain is a significant step towards achieving the government's goal.

Puma Energy Ghana plans to introduce more than 40,000 new National Petroleum Authority (NPA)-compliant cylinders between July and September 2026, nearly tripling its initial capacity of 24,000 cylinders. This is part of a multi-million-dollar investment program aimed at increasing the company's cylinder fleet to 300,000 within the next two years, with the capacity to serve 30,000 local communities.

The expansion will be supported by the five distributors, which are all 100% Ghanaian-owned enterprises. Representatives of the companies expressed their commitment to the partnership, with Torgbigah Adamah III, representing StepGas Ltd, stating that the partnership would provide Ghanaian entrepreneurs with the resources, cylinders, and technology needed to play a leading role in LPG distribution.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, stressed the importance of collaboration between the regulator and industry. He emphasized that a close partnership between Puma Energy Ghana and the NPA was crucial in cultivating an atmosphere of mutual respect that directly supports the growth of the Ghanaian economy.
