Prominent political leaders across party lines in Nigeria, including Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, attended the funeral Mass of the late South-South National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih. The ceremony took place in Ogbona community, Edo State, on Saturday. The leaders' presence underscored Orbih's significance in Nigerian politics and his impact on the lives of those who knew him.

Governor Okpebholo, in his eulogy, admonished Nigerians, particularly those in positions of authority, to live selfless and sacrificial lives. He emphasized the need for individuals to use their positions to make society a better place for all. Okpebholo's voice was filled with emotion as he reflected on the uncertainty of life and the importance of making meaningful contributions to society while one is alive. He recalled that his first visit to the church was to celebrate Orbih's birthday and expressed sadness at returning to the same venue to attend his funeral.

Okpebholo also thanked Minister Wike for standing by Orbih's family during the difficult period. He acknowledged the pain of losing a close friend and colleague, saying that Orbih's death had reminded him of the reality of death. The governor's words resonated with the congregation, who were also mourning the loss of a prominent leader.

Minister Wike, in his remarks, expressed his pain and sadness at losing a close friend and brother. He commended Okpebholo for supporting Orbih's family and dismissed insinuations of a disagreement between him and the governor. Wike stated that their relationship remained cordial and that they would continue to work together.

The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Gabriel Dunia, delivered a homily that urged the congregation and Nigerians to reflect on the transient nature of life and the inevitability of death. He emphasized that titles, academic qualifications, positions, social status, and personal achievements could not prevent death when the time came. The bishop called on the faithful to follow the path of truth and light and to remain conscious of their responsibilities to God and humanity.

Bishop Dunia also recalled that Orbih's parents introduced him to the Catholic faith, noting that he was born, baptized, and dedicated in the Church. He urged people to amend their ways and obey God's commandments so that they would not be caught unprepared. The bishop's words were a reminder to the congregation of the importance of living meaningful lives and being prepared for death.

Other dignitaries who attended the funeral included Magnus Abe, Samuel Anyanwu, House of Representatives member Anamero Dekeri, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and Edo State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe. Their presence demonstrated the impact Orbih had on the lives of many Nigerians and the respect he commanded across party lines.
