Detectives in Lari, Kiambu County, have launched a murder investigation after a 27-year-old woman was found dead in a lodging within a building housing the bar where she worked. The deceased, identified as Zawadi Mwathi, was reportedly serving customers at about 10:30pm before going missing. Concerned customers began searching for her before she was discovered inside one of the lodgings within the same building.
Police officers who visited the scene found Mwathi's body lying on a bed with her hands and neck tied with pieces of cloth. Her clothes were scattered on the floor, with preliminary observations indicating that a struggle may have occurred inside the room. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to the City Mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
Two suspects were arrested for questioning as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding Mwathi's death. The police are working to establish the events leading to her death and identify the individuals responsible. The incident has raised concerns about safety and security in the area, particularly for women working in the service industry.
In a separate incident, police in Vihiga have arrested a man following the death of his wife, who was found with multiple injuries inside their house in Musunji Village, Shiru Sub-Location. The woman, identified as Gladys, aged about 35, had multiple marks on her body, raising suspicion that she had been assaulted before her death. Preliminary investigations indicate that Gladys may have been assaulted by her husband during the day on Monday.
The suspect allegedly attacked Gladys using an electrical cable after accusing her of having an affair with his brother. Police arrested the man and recovered an electrical cable from inside the house, which was taken as part of the evidence. Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to Vihiga Referral Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, police in Nyamira have reclassified the death of a 35-year-old man from a sudden death case to murder following an autopsy that established he may have been strangled. The deceased, identified as Stephen Munyasya, was found unresponsive inside his house in Ekerenyo Village, Boisanga 1 Sub-Location, Bokisaba Location, Nyamira North Sub-County. An autopsy conducted at Nyamira County Referral Hospital established that Munyasya died from hypoxia, suspected to have resulted from manual strangulation.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Munyasya's death and expect to establish the person or persons responsible. The reclassification of the case from sudden death to murder indicates that the police have found evidence suggesting foul play. The incident highlights the need for vigilance and thorough investigations into suspicious deaths.
