The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, announced that President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama will attend the World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra. The event, themed "Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation," will take place from October 14-16, 2026. Rev. Wengam made this revelation at a news conference in Accra on October 1, 2026.

The World Assemblies of God Congress is expected to draw over 10,000 delegates from 100 countries to Accra. Rev. Wengam stated that the event will serve as a magnet to attract thousands of tourists and investors to Ghana, significantly boosting the hospitality industry and national economy. Local businesses, transport operators, food sellers, and petty traders are also expected to benefit massively from the event.

The Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Singapore, Rev. Dominic Yeo, and former President of Malawi and former General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Malawi, Rev. Lazarus Chakwera, will also attend the congress. This event marks the first time in the 115-year history of the Assemblies of God Fellowship that its World Congress is taking place in Africa.

Rev. Wengam described the congress as historic, emphasizing that it is a significant milestone for the Assemblies of God Fellowship. He revealed that the Local Organising Committee (LOC), chaired by Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia, was inaugurated to oversee the preparations for the event. The World Congress Secretariat was also established at the Assemblies of God Headquarters to coordinate the event.

The program outline for the congress includes morning sessions at the Black Star Square in Accra, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., featuring cross-fertilization of ideas, capacity building for church leaders and members, and upliftment of the denomination. Evening revival rallies will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium, with free attendance. Rev. Wengam emphasized that the theme of the congress is not just a slogan but a call to action for all Assemblies of God churches, pastors, and members.

The theme "Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation" aims to win more souls and plant at least one million churches by 2033, marking 2,000 years of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Rev. Wengam appealed to the media to give the congress the necessary publicity, highlighting its tourism and economic benefits for Ghana. He encouraged media practitioners to saturate offline and online spaces with quality content on the congress.

Rev. Wengam expressed his gratitude to the LOC and the World Congress Secretariat for their efforts in preparing for the event. He commended them for proving equal to the task and hoped they would maintain the momentum as the event approaches. The congress is expected to have a significant impact on Ghana, and Rev. Wengam urged the media to play a crucial role in its success.
