On October 27, the South East Development Commission (SEDC) launched the South East Gas Distribution Pipeline Infrastructure Project in Enugu. This project is a significant step towards achieving the administration's goal of fostering sustainable economic growth and infrastructure development across the South-East region. The project features a 400-kilometre pipeline network designed to bridge the gas-distribution gap in the region.

The pipeline will connect directly to the ANOH Gas Processing Plant in Imo State and the OB3 trunkline, and will be built in partnership with Gas Sync and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NNPC NGML). The project is expected to distribute natural gas directly to major commercial and industrial hubs across all five South-East states, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo. This will enable local industries to benefit from regional extraction.

President Tinubu had made a declaration in May 2025, while on an official visit to Anambra State, that the South-East region possesses huge gas reserves and that it was time for the region to be included in the national gas masterplan. The President's declaration was a deliberate policy imperative to engender balanced development in the region. Energy remains a crucial aspect of industrialisation and socio-economic transformation.

The SEDC has secured $3 million in foundational capital and formally onboarded over 150 prospective corporate off-takers ready to tap into the pipeline network upon completion. The impact of this project will be immense for the region, considering the many industrial clusters in Nnewi, Onitsha, Aba, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi. The project is backed by private capital and is expected to have a significant impact on the region's economy.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah praised President Tinubu's visionary leadership, saying that the administration has kept faith with Ndigbo through transformative infrastructure projects springing up across the zone. The Governor emphasized the importance of supporting the continuity of the administration and re-electing President Tinubu in January 2027.

The South-East Gas Distribution Pipeline Infrastructure Project is not just a pipeline; it is an energy conduit for a new era of regional industrial renaissance. The project is a testament to the administration's commitment to correcting regional inequities and unlocking economic opportunities. President Tinubu's leadership is being judged by the legacy of durable structures built and economic opportunities unlocked.

The launch of the project marks a significant milestone in the administration's efforts to develop the South-East region. The project's success will depend on the continued support of stakeholders, including the private sector and the government. The project's impact will be felt across the region, and it is expected to have a positive effect on the nation's economy.
