President Bola Tinubu has concluded his four-week working vacation in Europe and departed Paris, France, for Nigeria on Tuesday. According to Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu's aircraft is expected to land at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, later that evening. The President chose to fly to Lagos first to honour the memory of Chief MKO Abiola, a key figure in Nigeria's democratic struggle.
During his working vacation, Tinubu spent one week in London before heading to Paris. While in Paris, he attended a private dinner with President Emmanuel Macron and met with prominent business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group. The Bolloré Group has significant interests in media and digital industries, including Canal+, MultiChoice, and Universal Music Group.
On Monday, Tinubu also met with Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings, as part of his engagements with business leaders. Last week, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World to develop a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside. This project aims to create a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area.
DP World, a leading ports and logistics operator, plans to invest $7 billion in the seaport and economic zone project. This significant investment is expected to boost Nigeria's economy and enhance its maritime capabilities. The project is part of Tinubu's efforts to drive economic growth and development in Nigeria.
Upon his arrival in Lagos, Tinubu will attend the premiere of a movie honouring MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 1993 election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. This event is scheduled to take place on Independence Day, October 1. The President's decision to attend this premiere underscores his commitment to honouring Abiola's legacy.
In addition to attending the movie premiere, Tinubu will hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections. These meetings are expected to focus on strengthening alliances and discussing strategies for the upcoming polls. The President will return to Abuja after his engagements in Lagos.
