The Presidency of Nigeria has urged other presidential candidates to embark on spiritual journeys to seek God's guidance, similar to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. This call was made by Ademola Oshodi, Special Adviser to the President on Affairs and Protocols. Oshodi emphasized the importance of seeking God's intervention, regardless of the location, whether it be Jerusalem or Mecca.

President Tinubu recently visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he performed the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah, and was granted the rare privilege of entering the Holy Kaaba in Makkah to offer prayers. During his visit, Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Saudi authorities for granting him and his delegation access to the sacred structure. He also thanked King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their hospitality.

Tinubu's visit to Saudi Arabia was a reflection of the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, particularly their shared religious and diplomatic ties. During his visit, Tinubu prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria, as well as the wellbeing of its citizens. He also asked Almighty Allah for wisdom and resilience to continue leading Nigeria.

According to President Tinubu, his prayer for wisdom and resilience had preceded his victory in the 2023 presidential election. He returned to Saudi Arabia to express gratitude for what he described as an answered prayer. Tinubu also reflected on a passage in Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26 of the Holy Qur'an, which speaks about God's ultimate authority over power and sovereignty.

Tinubu emphasized that political authority is a responsibility that leaders must exercise with humility and in accordance with God's wishes. He described his emergence as Nigeria's leader as a special blessing from Allah, which has strengthened his commitment to national development. Tinubu expressed optimism about the direction of his administration, describing the country's economic foundation as solid.

The President stressed the importance of investing in young Nigerians, arguing that the decisions taken by present leaders will determine how future generations remember them. Oshodi, however, cautioned against placing political emphasis on Tinubu's spiritual activities, suggesting that other presidential candidates should also seek God's guidance without overemphasizing it.

The Presidency's message to other presidential candidates comes as a reminder of the importance of spiritual guidance in leadership. As the country continues to navigate its economic and developmental challenges, the role of faith and spirituality in governance remains a significant aspect of Nigerian politics. With the 2023 presidential election still fresh in the minds of Nigerians, the current administration's commitment to national development and economic growth will be closely watched.
