The Nigerian Presidency has urged for the expansion of electric vehicle initiatives across the country, emphasizing that private-sector investments can complement Federal Government efforts to modernise the nation's transportation system. This call was made by the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Transportation and Mobility, Prince Adetokunbo Ade-John, at the launch of the ProTaxi e-hailing platform in Abuja. The platform's launch marks a significant step towards modernising transportation and mobility in Nigeria.
The ProTaxi e-hailing platform was launched by PromiseLand Innovation, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Oloche, who rolled out 1,000 electric vehicles. Ade-John commended Oloche for this initiative, describing it as a practical demonstration of the drive to modernise transportation and mobility in the country. The Federal Government is also pursuing the deployment of electric buses and compressed natural gas-powered vehicles to transform the transport sector.
Ade-John encouraged PromiseLand Innovation to sustain and expand the initiative to other parts of the country. He also expressed his intention to present the initiative to key Federal Government officials and relevant agencies for consideration. Furthermore, he urged Nigerians to support locally developed solutions, highlighting that Oloche had committed personal resources to the project.
Emmanuel Oloche stated that the ProTaxi platform was conceived as part of PromiseLand Innovation's broader plan to use technology to create economic opportunities and help people move from poverty to prosperity. The platform aims to create opportunities for drivers and their families while providing Nigerians with an affordable transportation option through electric mobility.
According to Oloche, the company plans to expand beyond Nigeria and build an African technology company capable of competing globally. The company's mission is to transform everyday living and eventually compete with the best in the world. This vision aligns with the Nigerian government's efforts to modernise the transportation system and promote economic growth.
Ade-John also emphasized the potential for private initiatives to complement government efforts in transforming the transport sector. He noted that if a single individual can achieve such a feat with personal resources, there is no need for external investors. This highlights the potential for locally developed solutions to drive growth and innovation in the sector.
The launch of the ProTaxi e-hailing platform and the call for nationwide expansion of electric vehicle initiatives mark significant steps towards modernising Nigeria's transportation system. With the support of private-sector investments and locally developed solutions, the country can make substantial progress in promoting sustainable and efficient transportation options.
