The 2026 edition of the National Olympics games in Cameroon, code-named Dixiades, is set to take place in Douala from December 11-22. The games will feature athletes from the 10 regions of Cameroon competing in 10 different disciplines. According to the Cameroon Tribune, preparations for the event are on track. A meeting was held on October 6 between members of the national organisation committee and local committee members to evaluate the level of preparedness.
During the meeting, infrastructure, logistics, health, security, and communication plans were reviewed. Members also examined the implementation plan, taking stock of infrastructure, accommodation, transport, catering, communication, health, and security. The meeting revealed that three major competition sites have been identified for the games. The Douala reunification Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics events, and major football fixtures.
The Japoma Sports Complex will accommodate qualifying phases and finals in several team sports, as well as judo and wrestling. According to Jean-Keller Kotte, president of the local committee in charge of marketing and sponsorship for Dixiades 2026, about 95 per cent of the infrastructure at Japoma is ready, with some finishing works still required. He also indicated that logistical arrangements are advancing, with 27 hotels identified to accommodate delegations and officials.
A central catering village is envisaged to provide meals to athletes and other participants. Transport arrangements are being developed with partners. The local committee has sent out 56 letters to companies seeking support and mobilised councils for the torch lighting procession and cultural activities. The event aims to promote unity and healthy competition among the regions of Cameroon.
The Douala reunification Stadium and Japoma Sports Complex are expected to play critical roles in the success of the event. With the infrastructure almost ready, the focus now shifts to logistical arrangements and mobilisation of resources. The games are expected to attract a large number of athletes and officials, and adequate arrangements are being made to ensure their comfort and safety.
Parcours Vita has been identified as a venue for cultural and tourism activities. The event will feature a range of activities, including the torch lighting procession, which is expected to be a highlight of the games. Councils have been mobilised to support the event, and companies have been approached for sponsorship.
