Preparations for the 2026 Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF) are nearly complete, with organisers assuring exhibitors and visitors that adequate security and measures to manage heavy rains are in place. The fair will be held from September 28 to October 4 at the Jamhuri Park Showground and is expected to attract over 500 exhibitors from various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and finance. Nairobi Agricultural Society of Kenya chairman Levi Mukhweso said only final preparations remained ahead of the opening. During a media briefing, Mukhweso expressed confidence in the preparations, stating that the fair would allow visitors to discover new agricultural technologies and innovations. He also highlighted the opportunity for visitors to access training on modern farming practices, which would be a key feature of the event.
The fair has expanded beyond its traditional agricultural focus to include manufacturing, financial services, insurance, logistics, energy, education, research, and technology. The 2026 edition will feature exhibitions, product demonstrations, and training sessions, providing a platform for exhibitors to showcase their products and services. The ASK Business Nexus and Technology Showcase will also provide opportunities for business meetings, product launches, and engagements between exhibitors and institutional buyers.
To encourage more people to attend the fair, organisers have introduced a family package targeting groups of between three and nine people. Visitors attending for one day will receive a 10% discount, while those attending for between two and seven days would receive a 12.5% discount. Additionally, visitors staying for more than one day would enjoy free parking under the package, making it an attractive option for families and groups.
Security agencies have completed preparations to manage crowds and respond to incidents that may occur during the event. Nairobi deputy county commissioner for Kibera Victor Kamonde said adequate security personnel would be deployed to safeguard exhibitors and visitors. He assured Kenyans that authorities were well-prepared for the big event, with measures in place to ensure public safety.
Authorities have also taken precautions to mitigate the impact of potential El Niño rains. Kamonde said drainage systems and water channels at the showground had been inspected and cleared to allow rainwater to drain effectively in case of heavy rains. He urged Nairobi residents to avoid disaster-prone areas and exercise caution in the event of heavy rainfall, ensuring public safety during the event.
