The Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM) announced that the Posto Administrativo de Mungari in Guro District, Manica Province, has been connected to the National Electricity Grid (REN). This development brings electricity to approximately 1,000 new customers in the first phase. The project, completed on September 20, 2026, involved constructing 40 kilometers of medium-voltage lines and 10 kilometers of low-voltage networks.
The electrification project, valued at around 100 million Meticais, was financed by the Mozambican government. It included the installation of 150 public lighting lamps and represents a significant step in expanding access to electricity in Manica Province. This connection brings the number of administrative posts linked to the REN in Manica to five, out of a total of 10 planned for the 2025-2029 period.
Nationally, out of 419 existing administrative posts, 362 now have access to electricity through the REN and other alternative sources implemented by the Energy Fund (FUNAE). Only 57 administrative posts remain without electricity. The EDM's efforts aim to achieve universal access to electricity by 2030 by implementing projects in energy production, transportation, distribution, and marketing.
The connection of Mungari to the national grid is part of EDM's strategy to ensure the expansion of the REN and provide quality energy to the population. The project enhances lighting and security conditions in local communities. The EDM appeals for collaboration from the public to combat the vandalism of electrical infrastructure and energy theft.
The EDM encourages the public to report cases of vandalism and energy theft through the hotline 800 145 145. This initiative aims to ensure the sustainability of the REN expansion efforts.
