A significant operation by the Portuguese Police (PSP) has led to the dismantling of a drug trafficking network in the Paranhos area of Porto. On Friday, two men, aged 27 and 42, were detained near the University Polo in Porto. The PSP reported that the operation, which began as an investigation into drug trafficking, resulted in the seizure of over 10,600 doses of narcotics. The proximity of the S. Tomé neighborhood to the University Polo was a key factor in the operation.

The operation, which took place in Porto and Valongo, involved three home searches and one non-residential search. The PSP described the network as "relevant" and stated that its dismantling represents a significant blow against drug trafficking in the Porto Metropolitan Area, particularly in the Paranhos parish. The investigation targeted the S. Tomé neighborhood, considered a high-risk area due to its proximity to the university.

The seized narcotics include 10,250 doses of cannabis resin and 403 doses of cannabis leaves and flowering tops. Additionally, the authorities confiscated 1,460 euros in cash, two motorcycles, three mobile phones, a digital scale, a motorcycle helmet, and other objects related to the crime. The PSP emphasized that this operation is part of their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

The two detained men were brought before the Porto Judicial District Court, where they were placed in preventive detention, the most severe coercive measure. The PSP highlighted the importance of this operation in disrupting the local drug trafficking network. The authorities continue to investigate and gather evidence to identify other individuals potentially involved in the network.

According to the PSP, the operation demonstrates their commitment to fighting drug trafficking and protecting the community, particularly in areas close to educational institutions. The proximity of the S. Tomé neighborhood to the University Polo was a crucial factor in the operation, as it is considered a vulnerable area.

The PSP's Metropolitan Command stated that the operation was a success, thanks to the collaboration between different units and the support of the local community. The authorities urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities and to cooperate with the police in the fight against drug trafficking.

The dismantling of this drug trafficking network is seen as a significant achievement for the PSP and a demonstration of their capabilities in combating organized crime. The authorities will continue to work to identify and prosecute those involved in drug trafficking, with the goal of reducing the availability and use of narcotics in the region.
