The Abia State Police Command has conducted a successful raid on a suspected hideout used by a vehicle theft syndicate in Isuochi. According to Police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives from the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters recovered two vehicles during the operation on September 25. The recovered vehicles include a white Dodge with registration number LAGOS APP-909KF and a red Toyota Camry with registration number ENU-43AZ. The police have commenced an investigation to identify and apprehend members of the syndicate.
The Abia State Police Command has urged the public to visit the Police Headquarters in Umuahia with valid proof of ownership if they suspect that the recovered vehicles were stolen. The command is working to reunite the vehicles with their rightful owners. Meanwhile, in a related operation, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Aba North arrested a 28-year-old man, Ugochukwu Precious, over allegations of violent conduct, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.
According to the police, Ugochukwu Precious was arrested following a report received by the RRS on September 22. The report concerned Precious's alleged failure to pay for an iPhone 17 Pro Max obtained under a payment-on-delivery arrangement in April. The dispute allegedly escalated after Precious failed to make payment and resorted to using thugs and threats against the seller.
During the investigation, RRS operatives gathered intelligence that led to Precious's arrest. The suspect reportedly made confessional statements concerning the allegations. A pump-action shotgun was subsequently recovered from him on September 23. The police have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the alleged gang who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has reiterated the command's commitment to tackling violent crime, cultism, vehicle theft, and the unlawful possession of firearms in the state.
