The Sakumono District Police Command has launched a manhunt for Osei-Anto Samuel Christopher, a 58-year-old man, in connection with the fatal shooting of a married couple at their home in Sakumono, Ghana. The victims, Irene Atuguba, 47, and George Atuguba, 57, were killed at their residence at No. 79 Oti Street, NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the early hours of Friday, October 30, 2026. According to the police, the couple was found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the Sakumono Multiplex Community Hospital.
The police received a distress call at about 7:20am reporting that two people had been murdered in a house at the estate. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the couple "lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds." The Atugubas were rushed to the hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies were later moved to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra, where they are awaiting an autopsy. The police have recovered four spent cartridge shells from the house.
Preliminary investigations suggest that George and Irene Atuguba had borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect and were expected to repay it with GH¢100,000 in interest, but had defaulted. This loan dispute is believed to have led to the confrontation that resulted in the couple's death. The police say Osei-Anto Samuel Christopher went to the couple's home on the day of the shooting accompanied by his wife, Beatrice Mumuni, 46.
A disagreement reportedly broke out inside the house in the presence of three children and a house help. During the confrontation, the suspect is alleged to have pulled out a loaded pistol and opened fire on the couple before fleeing, leaving his wife behind at the scene. The police have not said whether Beatrice Mumuni is being treated as a witness or a person of interest in the case.
The police have corrected an earlier report that the victims were an uncle and niece, confirming that they were a married couple. This new information was provided after the police investigation revealed that George and Irene Atuguba were husband and wife. The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Sakumono District Police Command has asked the Ghana Immigration Service to place Osei-Anto Samuel Christopher's name on its "stop list" to prevent him from travelling out of the country while investigations continue. The police are working to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.
The police have not reported any arrests so far, but they are urging the public to provide any information that may lead to the suspect's capture. The case has raised concerns about the increasing rate of violent crimes in the region, and the police have assured the public that they are doing everything possible to bring the perpetrator to justice.
