The Ashanti Regional Police command in Ghana has arrested two key suspects, Salifu Walid, a 32-year-old Nigerien, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24-year-old Burkinabe national, in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure, a Senegalese goalkeeper. The arrests were made on Thursday, September 23, 2026, from their hideouts at Bampenase, near Mamponteng. According to the police, the two suspects were part of a four-member syndicate believed to have masterminded the kidnapping and killing of Toure.
Cheikh Toure was kidnapped and murdered in October 2025. The police said that on October 16, 2025, a group of individuals, who claimed to be brothers of the deceased goalkeeper, brought him to the Manhyia government hospital with multiple abdominal injuries, insisting that the victim had been involved in an accident. Unfortunately, Toure was pronounced dead upon arrival. The suspects subsequently deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, before fleeing the scene.
The police investigation revealed that the suspects were part of a group that posed as football scout agents and exploited online networks to lure unsuspecting people into the country. During interrogation, both suspects admitted involvement in the crime, outlining their respective roles in drawing the deceased into the country as part of a scheme to defraud him.
The police statement issued in Kumasi said that efforts had been intensified to apprehend other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, who were currently at large and believed to have played central roles in the group’s operations. The police are working to track down the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
The arrested suspects, Salifu Walid and Aziz Wadrago Mane, are currently in police custody and will be processed for court. The police are confident that they have made significant progress in the case and are committed to ensuring that all those involved are held accountable.
