The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers, Isreal Abakah, 35, and Gbene Emmanuel, 37, in an intelligence-led operation in Akure, the state capital. The arrest was made on September 27 by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence. The suspects are believed to be members of an armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorizing residents of Akure and neighboring communities.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were apprehended at different locations within Akure metropolis during coordinated operations by the police. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly confessed to participating in several armed robbery operations within Akure and its environs. The police are currently investigating the full extent of the suspects' activities and identifying possible victims.

During a raid on the gang's hideout in the Olufoam area of Akure, operatives recovered a locally made revolver capable of holding four rounds of ammunition. Other items recovered from the hideout included suspected criminal charms, a laptop computer, motorcycle mirrors, and a vehicle number plate. The police believe these items may be linked to the gang's operations.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, has commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating violent crime and dismantling criminal networks across the state. Ohagwu also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police, stressing that timely and credible information from members of the public remains vital to effective crime prevention and detection.

The police command has intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are currently at large and to recover additional exhibits linked to the gang's operations. The command assured residents that it would continue intelligence-driven operations and other proactive security measures aimed at protecting lives and property throughout Ondo State.

The arrest of the two suspects is a significant breakthrough in the fight against armed robbery in the state. The police are hopeful that further investigations will lead to the arrest of other members of the syndicate and the recovery of more stolen items. Residents have been urged to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information.
