The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere, a phone dealer at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The suspects, identified as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai, were apprehended after a thorough investigation. According to the police, Nana Yaw Kyere was reported missing on September 22 after leaving his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra on September 19.
The victim's partially burnt body was discovered at Community 18 on September 21, prompting the police to launch a probe into his disappearance and eventual murder. Investigations revealed that Sarah Osei Adams lured the victim to the residence of Philip Tefe at Teshie Agbleza, where he was allegedly attacked and killed. The police statement revealed that both suspects confessed to their involvement, with Philip Tefe admitting to hitting the victim with a metallic object, causing fatal injuries.
The police further stated that the victim was moved to another room where he was left unattended to and later died. The victim's body was then conveyed in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway on September 20, where it was dumped in a bush and set ablaze. The police have disclosed that Josiah Obodai was also involved in the crime, although the specifics of his role have not been released.
This incident bears some similarities to a similar case that occurred last year, where the lifeless body of an immigration officer, Stephen, was discovered in a drainage system near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. The deceased went missing five days before his tragic death, and his remains were conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue after his relatives positively identified the body.
In the previous case, the police noted that their preliminary investigations indicated the deceased had gone to meet his debtor, one Bright Aweh, who had promised to pay an outstanding debt owed on July 3. However, the victim never returned home that night, and his phone remained switched off throughout, raising concerns among family and friends who later reported him missing.
The police have pledged to get to the bottom of the case and ensure justice is served to the perpetrators. The Regional Police Command strongly condemned such violent and criminal acts and assured the public that it is working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident and bring all responsible persons to justice.
The police have also called on anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the nearest police station or call the police emergency numbers 18555 or 192. The public is urged to cooperate with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
