The Bauchi State Police Command has made significant arrests in its efforts to combat illegal arms proliferation and sexual offences. Three suspects were apprehended over alleged illegal possession and fabrication of firearms in Misau Local Government Area. Additionally, a 26-year-old man, Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, was arrested for allegedly raping a 50-year-old mentally ill woman in Gamawa LGA.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, operatives of the Misau Division intercepted Abubakar Ahmad, alias Tino, 30, on September 25, 2026, while he was in possession of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge. Preliminary investigation revealed that Ahmad was attempting to hand over the firearm to Tijjani Yakubu, 35, who was being remanded at a correctional centre over alleged criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.
During interrogation, Yakubu allegedly admitted ownership of the pistol and disclosed that he had given it to Ahmad for safekeeping. He further revealed that he bought the firearm from Bappah Kawu, 48, a welder from Tashar Masu, Misau. Police subsequently arrested Kawu, who allegedly confessed to fabricating and selling the pistol to Yakubu for N30,000. A search of his workshop led to the recovery of two locally fabricated dane guns and materials used for firearm fabrication.
The three suspects, Abubakar Ahmad, Tijjani Yakubu, and Bappah Kawu, remained in custody, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for further investigation. The police are working to uncover more details about the gun fabrication ring and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
In a separate incident in Gamawa, police arrested Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, 26, over an alleged rape involving a 50-year-old mentally ill woman. The victim’s younger brother reported the incident at the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters on September 25. According to the report, the suspect allegedly lured the woman to the outskirts of Garin Malam on September 22, where he had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The suspect was arrested following the report, and both he and the victim were taken to the General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical examination. The police said investigation into the alleged rape was ongoing. This incident highlights the need for vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities to prevent such crimes.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned that the command would not tolerate illegal possession and fabrication of firearms or sexual offences. He urged residents to provide credible information to the police to aid in their efforts to maintain security and order in the state.
