Police in Ghana's Greater Accra Region have conducted an operation at an Achimota lounge, resulting in the arrest of 64 suspects and the recovery of multiple firearms. The security operation was launched in response to complaints from local residents regarding suspected criminal activities at the lounge and its surrounding areas. The Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police, in collaboration with the National SWAT team, carried out the raid near Achimota Mile 7. During the swoop, law enforcement officers identified a blue, unregistered Acura vehicle containing a pistol holster. The vehicle was impounded and transferred to the Police Headquarters for further investigation as no one at the scene claimed ownership.
Among those apprehended was Theophilus Ashon, who falsely claimed to be a police officer attached to CID Operations. Subsequent checks established that he had no affiliation with the service. A search of his person led to the recovery of a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition. This find was part of the overall haul from the operation.
Further intelligence and investigations led the police to a location in Atico, where another suspect, Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was taken into custody. A search executed at Mills' residence uncovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. The items found included three pump-action guns, four pistols, 62 AA and BB cartridges, and 54 rounds of 40-calibre ammunition.
The police confirmed that all 64 suspects are currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations. They will be put before the court as part of the next steps in the legal process. The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police and the National SWAT team.
