The Kaduna State Police Command has made significant arrests and recoveries in separate operations across the state. According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, four suspects were arrested and 300 rounds of live ammunition and three locally made firearms were recovered. The operations took place in Makarfi, Gwantu, and Giwa local government areas. The arrests were made on September 20, 21, and 22, 2026.
The first operation was carried out by detectives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on September 22, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, they arrested two suspects, Rayyanu Adamu and Nasiru Abubakar, over alleged illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition in Giwa local government area and the Railway Station axis of Kaduna State. A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of 270 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 30 live rounds of Type 06 ammunition.
The two suspects, Adamu and Abubakar, are currently in police custody while an investigation is ongoing to establish the source and intended destination of the ammunition. The police also aim to identify other persons allegedly connected to the syndicate. The recovered ammunition totals 300 rounds of live ammunition. In another operation, police operatives from Makarfi Division, supported by local vigilantes, foiled an attack by suspected bandits on a resident at Gimi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area, on September 20. During the operation, one locally made rifle with three live cartridges, one locally made pistol with one live round, and a bag containing charms were recovered from the suspect.
On September 21, operatives of the Gwantu Division arrested another suspect, Jude Magaji of Ungwan Asibiti. Magaji was allegedly in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and was moving around the community, intimidating residents with the firearm, with the intent to commit an offence. The suspect is currently in police custody while further investigation is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Muhammad Rabiu, commended the police operatives and vigilantes for their prompt response and bravery. He assured the people of Kaduna State that the Command would sustain operations against criminal elements and directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend all fleeing suspects.
CP Muhammad Rabiu also urged members of the public to provide credible information to the police to support the fight against crime in the State.
