The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi ahead of the New Patriotic Party's National Delegates Conference. The conference, scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, is expected to attract delegates, party officials, supporters, and participants from across Ghana. The police have implemented these measures to ensure public safety, regulate vehicular movement, and support security operations during the event.

Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, has urged motorists and the public to plan their journeys in advance and comply with instructions from officers deployed along the affected routes. Three roads leading to the stadium will be temporarily closed: the stretch from Bridginia Traffic Lights to Carvery Methodist Church, the route from Unity Oil Fuel Station to T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, and the stretch linking Is My Kitchen Restaurant with Bridginia Traffic Lights.

The police have outlined alternative routes to maintain traffic flow during the restrictions. Commercial vehicles from Amakom will proceed directly to Asokwa, while vehicles from Asafo will be diverted at Bridginia Traffic Lights towards Asokwa or Amakom Traffic Lights. Commercial vehicles from LLL towards T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School will instead proceed towards Amakom Traffic Lights. Vehicles from Kumasi City Mall towards Afful Nkwanta Junction will be redirected through Bulldog Restaurant.

The police have also designated specific parking areas for various groups. The VVIP Car Park is reserved for former Presidents and the NPP Presidential Candidate. Members of Parliament, former MPs, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, and Chief Executive Officers will use the Scoreboard Parking Area. Regional delegates arriving by bus and National Party Executives will park at Heroes Park, while official police vehicles will be stationed at the Hockey Pitch.

All delegates and vehicles attending the conference must be properly accredited. Only accredited individuals and vehicles will be permitted into designated areas, and motorists have been instructed to display their accreditation clearly and comply with directives from officers managing access. The Motor Traffic and Transport Department will deploy personnel to regulate traffic and enforce the temporary arrangements.

Towing trucks will be positioned around the affected area to remove wrongly parked or abandoned vehicles. Vehicles removed during the operation will be taken to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly yard at the owners' expense. The police have cautioned motorists against attempting to bypass the traffic restrictions and have urged cooperation to ensure a smooth and secure event.

The New Patriotic Party's National Delegates Conference and national officers elections are expected to draw a large crowd, and the police have taken measures to ensure a safe and organized event. Motorists and the public are advised to plan ahead, follow the designated routes, and comply with the instructions of the police officers to avoid any inconvenience.
