The Kingmakers of Poasi New Takoradi Akona Royal family have stated that Nana Assafuah Kuma IV remains the only recognised chief for the community. Abusuapanyin Kojo Mensah of the Royal family, the kinsmen, and the Oman Committee within the Poasi community gave the recognition at a community durbar on Sunday. They urged the community to stand up and reject any intrusion by any segment of the community or family wishing to enstool a new king.
Nana Assafuah Kuma IV was duly enstooled in 2020 by the Poasi Akona Royal Stool Family, led by Ebusuapanyin Kojo Mensah and the Elders-in-Council. Mr Bentil Appiah-Kubi was appointed to be enstooled as Nana Assafuah Kuma IV on July 25, 2020, and the enstoolment was performed by Safohen Kweku Essuon and the Asofo Company. The particulars of Nana Assafuah Kuma IV were subsequently submitted to the Sekondi Traditional council.
However, a group of people claiming to belong to the Poasi Akona Royal Stool Family allegedly entered the Poasi Palace unannounced, accompanied by armed men, and attempted to enstool another chief on Sunday, September 13, 2026. This development created tension and confusion among residents, particularly families, women, children, and the elderly.
The Oman Committee, led by Mr. Samuel Amissah, Secretary to the Committee, has appealed to all stakeholders to help preserve peace in the Poasi-New Takoradi community. The Committee appreciated the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nelson, and the Western Regional Police Command for their intervention, which helped restore calm to the community.
The Committee also appealed to Nana Kobena Nketsia V, the President of the Western Regional house of Chiefs, the Sekondi traditional council, the Regional Security Council, and well-meaning citizens of the area to work together to stem the early warning signals before it escalated. They called on the security agencies and traditional authorities to continue monitoring developments in the community.
The Oman Committee reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability in Poasi-New Takoradi and called on residents to remain calm while the relevant authorities addressed the matter. The Committee also urged the security agencies to take appropriate steps to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The affirmation of Nana Assafuah Kuma IV as the only recognised chief aims to bring peace and stability to the Poasi-New Takoradi community. The Kingmakers and the Oman Committee remain committed to upholding the legitimacy of Nana Assafuah Kuma IV's enstoolment in 2020.
